LZ Technology Supports a Historic Return to the Moon

The Artemis II mission marks a decisive step forward in human spaceflight—sending astronauts around the Moon for the first time since Apollo 17. It advances a broader objective: establishing a sustained human presence beyond Earth orbit.

As a subcontractor to Leidos, LZ Technology supported this mission through the Cargo Mission Contract, delivering capabilities that operate where failure is not an option. The work rarely draws attention. It is designed that way.

A Mission That Reset the Bar

Artemis II did not just succeed. It rewrote expectations for human spaceflight:

  • The crew traveled more than 252,000 miles from Earth, the farthest distance ever reached by humans
  • A 10-day deep space mission validated life-support, navigation, and mission systems for future lunar landings
  • Humans returned to lunar space for the first time since Apollo 17
  • The mission captured direct observations and imagery of the Moon’s far side, including rare Earthset views
  • Orion executed a textbook reentry and splashdown, safely returning astronauts traveling nearly 25,000 mph
  • The spacecraft’s advanced onboard systems demonstrated fault-tolerant computing capable of surviving multiple system failures mid-flight

Precision Work Behind the Mission

LZ Technology’s contributions focused on the systems, hardware, and operational readiness required to support astronauts and mission execution:

  • Certification and delivery of crew equipment and mission devices
  • Procurement, configuration, testing, and delivery of crew-used hardware in coordination with NASA
  • Design, development, certification, and evaluation of docking targets
  • Certification and delivery of imaging systems supporting scientific objectives
  • Development of custom hardware solutions, including USB-C charging capabilities
  • Manufacturing of foam, decals, and placards for safe stowage and operations
  • Processing and integration of more than 800 pounds of cargo into Orion stowage containers
  • Planning and execution of recovery operations, coordinating retrieval of more than 700 pounds of return cargo post-splashdown

Each component carries a simple requirement: perform exactly as expected, under conditions that leave no room for improvisation.

Quietly Essential

Space missions depend on thousands of interdependent details. A docking target must align. A piece of cargo must be secured. A device must power on without hesitation. These are small moments individually. Together, they define mission success.

LZ Technology’s role sits inside those moments—where disciplined execution, technical rigor, and rapid problem-solving converge. The result is work that blends into the mission itself: visible only when it fails, indispensable when it succeeds.

Built on Partnership

This mission reflects coordinated effort across government and industry. Engineers, operators, technicians, and program teams contributed expertise shaped by years of preparation and iteration. The outcome is not a single achievement but a shared one.

Through its partnership with Leidos and collaboration with NASA, LZ Technology helped deliver systems and support that move human spaceflight forward—one precisely executed detail at a time.

The mission proved what matters most: when the stakes are highest, the details hold.

And this time, every one of them did.

Engage LZ Technology for Mission-Critical Support

Missions like Artemis II do not leave room for guesswork. They demand partners who can step into complex environments, integrate quickly, and deliver outcomes that hold under pressure.

LZ Technology supports organizations operating in high-stakes domains—space, defense, and advanced technology—where reliability defines success. From systems integration and hardware development to operational support and recovery execution, the focus remains the same: deliver solutions that perform when it counts.

Organizations preparing for complex missions or critical operations can engage LZ Technology to bring that same level of precision, discipline, and execution to their programs.
